UK Television and Radio in France

To receive UK Television and Radio in France you will need a satellite dish, a digital satellite receiver, appropriate cabling and a PAL format TV.

UK TV and Radio channels can be received from the Astra 2 satellites with a simple Free-to-Air digital satellite receiver. The channels available include all the BBC channels (TV and Radio), all the ITV channels, Four, Five and various others such as CNN, Sky News, Euro News, E4 and More 4. If you are using a standard Sky Digibox without a subscription card, you can receive a similar list of channels.

The BBC and ITV are now offering their own range of digital satellite receivers known as FreeSat. With these receivers you can obtain all the free channels but they do not allow you to use a Sky subscription card. Sky and BBC/ITV are now both offering High Definition channels.

The BBC HD channel is free on a FreeSat receiver and is currently on air from 19.00 to midnight. The broadcasting hours will grow over the next year to 18 months to 9 hours per day. ITV HD is available on selected ITV  programmes via the red button on the remote control.

Sky currently offer a wider range of HD programmes but to obtain these you will require a Sky + HD receiver and a monthly subscription. Both Sky and BBC/ITV offer satellite receivers with a built-in hard disk recording facility. To obtain this service you will need a twin-output LNB fitted to your dish and two cables from the dish to the reciever. French TV

As in the UK, analogue TV in France is gradually being phased out and replaced by digital TV. To receive French Digital Free-to-Air channels you will need a separate satellite dish, a Digital TNTSAT receiver, appropriate cabling and a SECAM format TV. (Most modern, well know brands of TV are normally both PAL and SECAM compatible but we recommend that you always refer to the TV manual to ensure that this is the case).

The French TNTSAT Digital service with 19 channels is broadcast from the Astra 1 satellites. To access the programmes you will need a TNTSAT specific receiver which comes supplied with a viewing card (this is not a subscription card). This receiver will only pick up the TNTSAT channels, therefore it is not possible to use it to receive other channels from other satellites. High Definition and Hard Disk Recording versions are also now available.

Installations

• an appropriately sized dish which can be a light colour or a transparent for conservation areas

• a new bracket and LNB

• as much 17 VAtC cable as is required

• the Satellite receiver of your choice

• and TVA at 5.5% on properties older than 2 years

(French regulations stipulate that TVA on new properties and commercial premises is payable @ 19.6%)
